In the search for better hair loss treatment, american scientists have discovered the important role that plays the prostaglandin D2 as inhibitor of the growth of the hair. Researchers say that animals with high levels of prostaglandin D2 lack hair completely.

Based on this premise the researchers are trying to discover a hair loss treatment effective for all types of hair loss.

Dr. George Cotsarelis and a group of dermatologists at the University of Pennsylvania found that high levels of Prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) were found in men suffering from baldness or hair loss. While more Prostaglandin D2 thinner hair. The announcement was made in August this year.

Large quantities of Prostaglandin D2 are found in the brain and in the fat cells of mammals and humans and play a critical role in the emergence of allergic diseases such as asthma. Researchers think that reducing levels of Prostaglandin D2 to normal levels may also reduce hair loss.

A hair loss treatment  including Prostaglandin D2 could be on the market in about two years, for which  Dr. Cotsarelis and his team are looking for pharmaceutical companies able to develop a drug based on Prostaglandin D2 effective to stop hair loss

This discovery opens a door of hope to millions of men and women who suffer from some kind of baldness and they need an effective hair loss treatment. Only in the United States there are more than 50 million men with baldness or hair loss problems. It is possible that prostaglandin D2 is not effective in all cases and in all males and females but hope there is and will be a matter of time to know the results. At the moment already exist prostaglandin inhibitors by what the solution to the problem of baldness, loss of hair or thin hair may be close.
