The study was led by Brian Wansink, food psychologist and director of the Food and Brand Lab at Cornell University, US.
The old adage out of sight, out of mind might hold some truth in regards to food, it seems.
A new study has found that people who have sugary cereals and fizzy drinks in clear view often weigh as much as 25lbs (11kg) more than those who don’t.
People who leave healthy snacks such as bowls of fruit on their kitchen counters weigh 13lbs (6kg) less, researchers at Cornell University discovered.
His research indicated that ‘there was a huge correlation between what was sitting out and how much [participants] weighed’, he told Live Science.
Maintaining a healthy weight can often be a struggle, but there are numerous ways to keep weight gain in check including drinking water every time you feel peckish, chewing your food slowly, and paying attention to what is on your plate.
